Enabling 2FA (2 Factor Authentication)

Enabling 2FA (2 Factor Authentication)

Last update: Tuesday, Mar 08, 2022

Two-factor authentication (“2FA”) is a great way to improve the security of an account. Practically, it means storing a secret inside an authenticator (usually your mobile device and exchanging a code from the authenticator when you try to log in.

This means an attacker needs both to have guessed (or found) your password and to access (or steal) your authenticator, a more difficult proposition than either one or the other.

To use 2FA authentication, you will need to install an authenticator app on your mobile device.

Get Google Authenticator

To enable 2FA for your account, click on your user icon and click on Preferences.

Under Account Security, click on the Enable two-factor Authentication button.

You will be prompted to enter your password when enabling 2FA.

Once you have authenticated yourself by inputting your password, a screen with instructions to enable 2FA is displayed as shown below.

Next, open the Google Authenticator app and scan the barcode that is displayed on your screen. Enter the 6-digit verification code displayed in the Google Authenticator app and click on the Enable two-factor authentication button.

Authentication codes expire after a few seconds and are automatically regenerated by the Google Authenticator app. Therefore, you will need to open the Google Authenticator app to obtain a new code every time you need to log in to your account.
