A guide to warehouse picking and shipping strategies

AccelGrid allows you to choose between one of the following shipping flows:

  • One step (shipping): Ship directly from stock

  • Two steps (pick + ship): Bring goods to output location before shipping

  • Three steps (pick + pack + ship): Make packages into a dedicated location, then bring them to the output location for shipping

You should use a shipping strategy that best suits the nature of the products you sell, the size of your warehouse, and the volume of orders you handle.

If you have a small warehouse that does not hold a large number of stock especially perishable items, One-step (shipping) is the simplest solution. It is also the default configuration and works out-of-the-box.

If you sell products that must follow specific removal methods such as FIFO, LIFO, and FEFO then a Two-step (pick + ship) flow is the right approach. This method can also be used if you hold a large amount of stock or the items you stock are big in size.

A Three steps (pick + pack + ship) is the right approach when the items you stock must be packed or assembled before they can be shipped to their final destination.
